“Shrine” と “Temple” の違い

神社の参拝作法
1. 鳥居をくぐる

2. 手水舎で身を清める
“At ‘temizuya’ (purification fountain), wash your left hand, then right, then rinse your mouth from your hand (not directly from the ladle).”
3. 二礼二拍手一礼
“At the main hall, bow twice deeply, clap twice, make your wish silently, then bow once more. This is called ‘ni-rei ni-haku-shu ichi-rei.'”

お寺の参拝作法
お寺では拍手しない
“Important difference: At a temple, do NOT clap. Just put your hands together quietly and bow.”

“At many temples, you light incense at the front. Wave your hands to put out flames — don’t blow on them, as that’s considered impure.”
