外国人講師に「日本食で何が一番好き?」と聞かれて「Sushi!」と答えるだけで会話が終わってしまった経験はありませんか? 寿司は日本食の代表ですが、語れる情報は無限にあります。今回はその英語表現を整理します。
“Sushi” の本当の意味
寿司の「すし」は、もともと「酸っぱい」という意味の古語「すし(酸し)」から来ています。
